Helping USAID’s Democracy and Governance Officers Worldwide

We are on the forefront of efforts to train and support DRG officers

USAID aims to lead efforts worldwide around democracy and governance through innovative programming, a learning agenda, and robust research.

We have worked closely with USAID’s Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance (DRG) and other offices to promote resilient, democratic societies under the Democracy and Governance Analytical Services III IQC. We delivered to USAID dozens of DRG, violent extremism (VE), and other assessments, as well as analyses of women’s leadership and political empowerment, civil service reform, DRG programming in authoritarian settings, pro-poor DRG programming, and the dynamics of jihadi organizations.

We also undertook longer-term analytical work, including the production of annual, multi-country assessments of civil society organization (CSO) sustainability, and in the case of the Measuring Impact of Stabilization Initiatives (MISTI) project in Afghanistan, recurring analyses of political trends based on highly complex data gathering and analysis.

MSI supported the design and delivery of a variety of trainings, which are critical to building the skill and capacity of democracy officers. These included the DRG Fundamentals training course, and the Strengthening Public Financial Management and Public Accountability course, a cross-sectoral course involving curriculum from both DRG and the economic growth, education, and environment teams.

Our team assisted with logistics and coordination efforts for two annual events, the DRG Forum and the coinciding DRG Officers’ Learning Workshop, which provided an opportunity for headquarters and field-based DRG officers to learn from each other on implementation challenges, opportunities, and innovative programming tools.
