Building on Previous Work in Ethiopia to Foster Learning and Collaboration
We work with Ethiopian government counterparts, donors, the private sector, and civil society to gather data and evidence that supports learning for USAID and its stakeholders.
Using data for evidence-based decision-making in Ethiopia enhances regional security, ensures efficient and effective distribution of humanitarian aid, and helps establish systems that improve the wellbeing of all segments of the population.
Due to an ever-changing and often unpredictable context driven by physical and political insecurity, USAID is looking for innovative approaches in Ethiopia to collect, use, and visualize data that will enable agile, adaptive programming. One approach is forming partnerships with traditional and non-traditional partners to promote Collaboration, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) practices within the USAID mission, by implementing partners, and among other development stakeholders.
Under the USAID-funded Ethiopia Learning Analytics Activity, MSI, A Tetra Tech Company is working alongside Tetra Tech’s sister company, Kaizen, taking a leading role in evidence-gathering. This includes working with the Government of Ethiopia and non-governmental entities to collect quantitative and qualitative evidence from both traditional and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) sources, including geographic information systems.
Tasks that draw from MSI’s industry-leading monitoring, evaluation, and learning services, include baseline data collection, third-party monitoring, evaluations and assessments, special studies, and other work to develop and compile evidence in support of learning for USAID.
MSI’s third-party monitoring efforts come at a crucial time to evaluate the pause and resumption of food assistance, as USAID recommenced food aid to Ethiopia in November 2023. Our strategy engages essential stakeholders in consultative procedures to guarantee that local entities take on leadership roles and ownership of enduring initiatives.
MSI has supported USAID’s ability to collect, analyze and use evidence since 1981. Over the years, we have grown with USAID, from supporting initial development of the program cycle to implementing more than 50 monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) platforms globally. MSI has conducted MEL work for clients, including but not limited to USAID, MCC, the US Departments of Defense, Labor and State, as well as multiple foundations.
Ethiopia LAA joins our industry-leading Strategy, Evaluation and Analysis practice, which currently implements 29 monitoring, evaluation and learning projects worldwide.
