Founded in 1981 in a small townhouse in northwest Washington, D.C., we’ve grown in size and presence around the world, and the ability to tackle complex international development challenges.
MSI founded by Larry Cooley; carved out a market niche in the delivery of quality, short-term technical assistance; 30 staff in Washington, D.C.
1981
Broadened technical base; staff expansion to 150 by the end of the 1990’s; offices on houseboats on the Potomac River
1990's
Became credible & competent contractor for large field projects
Early 2000's
Iraq Tatweer and other large-scale projects underway; staff growth to 600
2006 and Onward
Acquisition by Coffey, an Australia-based mining, engineering and international development firm listed on the Australia Stock Exchange
2008
Move to new offices in Crystal City, Virginia (USA)
2013
Leadership transition for the first time in MSI’s 30-year history; long-time MSIer Keith Brown takes the helm of MSI
March 2015
Tetra Tech confirmation of MSI and Coffey acquisition
January 2016
Continued expansion into Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa; more than a dozen MEL projects
2016-2017
40th anniversary of MSI's founding; launched the Rule of Law/Govt. Accountability and Peace and Security practice areas

Andy Grimminger becomes 3rd MSI President; integration of mission support services practice area
