Beginning in 2012, we implemented the Kenya Support project. This demand-driven contract provided extensive evaluation and program support services for USAID/Kenya and East Africa’s broad portfolio.

One of the most significant activities under the project was our communications support to the Mission and its numerous technical offices. Our local team helped to greatly expand the Mission’s capacity for consistently high-quality and strategic outreach.

USAID/KEA’s bustling communications activities far exceeds that of other missions, with a highly active social media presence, captivating photography and video, and superior print collateral. Congressional and staff delegations occur regularly and technical offices’ needs for communications support have grown, placing extra demands on an already busy Mission.

Our team expanded the Mission’s focus on strategy development, story collection, materials design and content curation. We:

  • Produced five annual reports, 15 newsletters, more than 100 fact sheets, thousands of social media posts on Twitter and Facebook and 47 county brochures.
  • Increased Facebook likes for USAID/Kenya from 9,000 in 2014 to 276,000 to date. The page is now ranked sixth of 46 active missions.
  • Helped to amass more than 22,500 additional Twitter followers—increasing from 6,000 to 28,500—to position the Twitter handle as the fifth most popular account among 53 active USAID missions.
  • Helped reinvigorate the East Africa platforms after several years of dormancy, also boosting its ranking considerably amongst active missions on this platform.

We managed USAID’s global DOC Training Program for over 10 years. Under that program, we created the “USAID Survival Manual for Development and Outreach Communications.” We also advised and trained staff in 80 missions, using material developed for 40 training courses.
