Improving Governance and Mitigating Fragility in the Middle East and North Africa
Meaning “bridge” in Arabic, GISR is designed to respond rapidly to shocks that impact governance and fragility, address gaps in governance and resilience programming, and test and scale pilot activities that address the sources of fragility, conflict and poor governance.
We offer USAID Missions and offices the opportunity to respond to, understand and/or address shocks and stressors in post-conflict environments and fragile settings in the region.
Core capabilities and buy-ins may include:
- Analytical work.
- Field implementation and capacity development of staff, implementing partners and host country institutions.
- Assessments to better understand shocks, stressors and changing political and social dynamics to inform, as well as to test, adapt and scale, stabilization, governance, conflict mitigation, CVE and resilience programming.
- Bridge activities to help address gaps in programming while new strategies or programs are being designed/developed, or during periods of transition from humanitarian to development assistance work.
- Ensuring the inclusion of youth, women and marginalized populations in governance and conflict programming.
One such project made possible through GISR focuses on improving services to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Northern Iraq.
